We are located on Porcher Island, which is situated in the centre of one of North America's top salmon fishing waterways. The Skeena River of British Columbia produces legendary
dream-sized Chinook, Coho, Chum, Pink, and Sockeye salmon.
An average-sized Chinook could easily be as long as your leg and as big around as your waist. A record-sized Chinook might outweigh the biggest dog in your neighborhood. The Skeena river held the World Record for a sport-caught Chinook until 1985, an unbelievable 92 1/2 pound wall hanger!
Halibut is the largest of the game fish that you will encounter in the waters surrounding the island. This tasty fish averages 25-50 pounds but can reach weights of up to 450 pounds. Halibut are available year round with the exception of January. Their abundance increases in the months of May, June, July, August and September. Ling Cod, Red Snapper (Yellow Eye) and Rockfish are also available throughout the summer. If you are looking for food for your table or just a fish tale to tell, Oona River Retreat is the place to come for your North-Coast fishing adventure.
